What is ICPEA?

Who We Are
ICPEA represents the colleges and universities in the state of Illinois that prepare principals and assistant principals under the guidelines set forth by the Illinois State Board of Education.
 
Our Mission
Our mission is to prepare ethical, moral, and competent school administrators who can lead in a diverse community, promote equity and fairness, and support school staff in fostering academic achievement and the development of its students.
 
What We Do
  • We share our varied experiences with preparing leaders in order to strengthen each college’s/university’s program and ensure a level of consistency aligned to the state’s goal to have effective principals leading its schools.
  • We prepare licensed educators to earn their principal endorsement by engaging them with relevant theoretical frameworks, researched best practices, and field experiences, including a rigorous internship anchored by professional standards for educational leaders.
  • We support candidates in our programs during their coursework, supervised internships, preparation for state testing, and search for administrative positions.
  • We work with state and national organizations to ensure a seamless transition from student to administrator by incorporating standards of practice for school leaders into our programs and extracurricular experiences.
  • We work with the state to ensure our programs are guided by rigorous, relevant, and attainable expectations.
  • We work with the state and other professional organizations to address issues of diversity, ethics, and inclusiveness in the recruitment, development, and retention of school leaders.
